Stopped by the Mission & 1st Truck Stop in SF for lunch today. A group of us Berkeleyans – Austin, Clay, Grace, Eric, and Emily – met up (from our respective workplaces around the area) at the food alley where the trucks were located.
There were three trucks jammed into a tiny alley, and Hiyaaa! popped out, probably because of its insanely awesome name. Plus, I was feeling bulgogi today. Ordered their bulgogi roll (with double the meat for an extra $2).
When I picked up the roll, I was surprised to find that it was basically a Vietnamese sandwich (banh mi) with bulgogi. So I guess this place was a Korean-Viet fusion? Interesting.
The sandwich was definitely good, the meat was pretty tender, spiced up, and the pickled veggies added a nice contrasting flavor. It was overpriced, but so are all of the food trucks. Plus, I was pretty full and satisfied after, so I can’t complain.
We ate our lunches in a courtyard where a live blues/R&B band was playing music. Taking bites from my sandwich and enjoying the music, I wanted to stay there forever.
