Another Big Eat restaurant checked off. Grace and I tried out Little Star Pizza, a Chicago-style deep dish pizza place. Now, I’ve only had deep dish pizza on one other occasion, about two years ago at Zachary’s in Berkeley. Even though the pizza was delicious, I’m still a thin-crust guy at heart, and nothing tops Cheeseboard for me.
Still, I’d say that the Little Star deep dish we ordered was pretty good. Spinach blended with ricotta and feta, mushrooms, onions, garlic, and fresh tomato sauce made for a delicious sensation, but surprisingly, the crust was my favorite part of this pizza.
There was a hint of cornmeal in the crust, which tasted like a slightly crispier version of corn bread. Mmm.
A little on the pricey side, and the restaurant itself was pretty clean and not overly fancy. Brownie points for playing Thom Yorke’s Atoms for Peace record in the background. I haven’t heard that album in ages.
Great experience and great pizza. You can’t go wrong with a deep dish pizza every once in a while.
