Today was the last day of my summer internship at OpenDNS. The marketing director and marketing manager decided to treat me to a really nice restaurant for lunch. COCO500 was their recommendation – how could I say no to good (and expensive) food?
As part of SF Gate’s Top 100 Bay Area Restaurants for the past six years, this place was the real deal. Although the place wasn’t super-fancy, there were some nice paintings and an overall clean feel.
For starters, we ordered the battered fried green beans. The appetizer came with ranch dressing, and the green beans were fresh and delicious. Next came the entree: their famous COCOburger, a giant hunk of a burger with grilled onions and sharp chedder cheese, along with the usual beef patty and condiments.
The burger was amazing. Juicy and tender, the patty satisfied the taste buds and the stomach. The house made chips weren’t too bad, either. Add in a Virgil’s micro-brewed cola, and this lunch was fit for the kings.
The burger came out to $16, and along with the appetizer and drink, totaled ~$26. What can I say? Eating at COCO500 was a wonderful end to a wonderful summer in SF. I’m going to miss the city, especially the huge variety of restaurants that make the possibilities endless.
Gone but will return at www.thefoodspotlight.com.
