I like meat. Juicy, tasty, cooked-to-perfection meat makes me happy. Slather on some BBQ sauce, and you’ve just seized my (and my stomach’s) undivided attention.
Of the three BBQ places I’ve tried at Berkeley, T-Rex Barbeque on 10th Street (near Gilman) is the nicest location, with clean, modern interior and exterior designs, plus good food to match.
I ordered their spare ribs, which our waitress recommended over short ribs, but not before jumping into a full-blown explanation of the differences between the two kinds of ribs. Knowledgeable servers, I like.
The ribs came after a short wait, glistening with sauce. They looked delicious, and tasted delicious, too. The outer layer of meat beneath the sauce was purposely lightly-singed to give it that unmistakable “smoked” taste. The BBQ sauce was pretty sweet and complemented the meat well.
Overall, definitely one of the better BBQ places at Berkeley, and large enough for big groups to enjoy some good ol’ barbeque.
