$10 all-you-can-eat (AYCE) Korean BBQ. I think SoCal is one of the few regions in the country that can pull that off.
I definitely have some great high school memories spent with friends at AYCE KBBQ places. We’d plop down the cash, grab our seats, and three hours and many platters of meat later, we’d exit the restaurant in a near-comatose state. Bliss.
Looking at $10 places, there’s not too much to differentiate these restaurants in terms of food. Meat quality and selection are typically the same, so I’d say the experience sets these places apart.
Whether it’s the smoked-induced haze and lightning-fast service (sometimes) of Mr. Lee’s, or the motherly care of the waitress at Korea House, the experience is just as important as the food.
And Korea House delivers on the experience. Located in a nondescript Korean food plaza, this place has clean tables, friendly staff, and good quality meat. $10 during lunch gets you about 8-9 selections of meat, with beef brisket the most popular.
After a couple of hours and many plates later, our group of 5 left the place feeling full, sleepy, and very, very happy.
