Gyro. How do you pronounce the word? There doesn’t seem to be a general consensus, but I do remember one of my teachers in high school adamantly exclaiming the “correct” way – yee-row, not gyro like in gyroscope.
Regardless of how the word is pronounced, I had the pleasure of stopping by Gyro King for lunch in SF today on Jay’s recommendation. My roommates and I ordered a platter each – chicken for me.
And wow was it a tasty and filling meal! The food came out piping hot pretty quickly, and I really enjoyed the chicken (don’t forget the hot sauce!), along with the salad, hummus, and bread.
But the surprise was the rice. Simply put, it was some of the best-tasting rice I’ve had, which is saying a lot since rice tastes like, well, nothing. You’ll have to try it yourself.
Overall, a satisfying lunch at a Greek restaurant.
