Although there is quite the selection of sushi places in the Bay Area, Berkeley is not exactly the go-to place for high-quality sushi. Solution? Head over to Alameda, a nice suburban island west of Oakland, to go sushi hunting.
My friends and I dropped by Sushi House on a busy Sunday evening. The place was packed with mostly young families and their kids – quite a change of scenery compared to a college town. After our initial wait, we got a booth facing the bay. Too bad it was evening, but I can imagine it to be quite a view during the day.
I ordered the Lion King Roll (salmon wrapped over Cali rolls and baked to perfection). I’ve gotten plenty of Lion Kings in the past at various sushi restaurants, and I’d rank this one in my top three. Tender and juicy salmon, just the right amount of sauce, and of course the freshly-made California roll. A winning combination, and a dinnertime well-spent.
